Dot in South Africa

Nelson Mandela, Sharon and Charles

Back in August 2000 Sharon Evans was invited to meet Nelson Mandela by Kathi Scott from the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. Mr Mandela said of Dot: “I think Dot is going to change the way we communicate with children around the world. If we were all imbued with the same spirit of kindness the world would be a better place for children.”

The Yr4 Journal, ‘Making the Best of Me”, has permission to use his image drawn in cartoon style with Dot and her friends.

NM wife and neil

At Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday, Neil Evans from the Dot Com Children’s Foundation was introduced to Graça Machel DBE.  She is the widow of former South African President Nelson Mandela.  Graça is an international advocate for women’s and children’s rights and in 1997 was made a British dame for her humanitarian work. Her message to Neil referring Dot Com was, “This work is in your hands, it must continue.”

Below is a film about how  a school in South Africa for children with special needs was helped by the Dot team with support from the Royal Signal ‘Motorcycle’ Regiment (the film will start after 19 seconds).
