HM Treasury Event

The Dot Com Children’s Fund was formed following the 2013 Government Finance Profession (GFP) conference. After meeting children who completed the Dot Com values programme in school, ICEAW helped with the creation of the charity to fund raise for the programme. The first event was hosted at HM Treasury by the second Permanent Secretary at the time, Tom Scholar.

The evening was the idea of Terry Rogers from HM Treasury Outreach Programme and colleague Maria Taulli  to promote volunteering. Children from Parkside School in Waltham Forest made a presentation about the Dot Com Programme with their teachers and the police Borough Commander Mark Collins and his Chief Inspector Chris Nelson.

Tom Scholar joked: ”I can confidently say the Cha Cha Cha has never been danced before in this room!” Encouraging colleagues to support the Dot Com learning programme he said: “It’s inspirational, it’s a whole lot of fun and getting involved in something slightly outside your comfort zone, in an area that’s different from things you normally do, something that might feel a little bit edgy, is a fantastic way to develop as a person and learn new things. So the volunteer gets a lot out of it as well as putting a bit back.”
